Biography

John Gordon

"This year I am celebrating 27 years as a professional photographer. Sometimes I
have to remind myself how lucky I am to have found a path in life that
offers so much creativity. What is even more amazing are the people I
have met on that journey. People from every walk of life, the rich,
the poor, the disadvantaged, the gifted, the famous and on and on"

"I am self taught. I learnt how to photograph from the Kodak Book of
Photography" I also studied the work of English photographer John Hedgecoe. He photographed everything so assumed that was what photographers do. It paid the bills!

Workshop(s)

Talk 1. Self publishing- "What a Ride"

How a book about the community of Langley B.C. turned into a BC best seller and how those same images began a self directed stock business. The success of the first book spawned a follow-up with many of the book's images selling to local government, business and to art buyers. John will share his experience on how to start a project, some of the pitfalls and how to see it through to completion.

Talk 2. Community newspaper "Jack of all Trades"

After 26 years as an award winning community newspaper photographer John explains how he started in the newspaper business in Campbell River and how networking landed him his present position as the staff photographer at the Langley Times. He will talk about how the darkroom have been displaced by computers and how a newspaper photographer must be a "jack of all trades" prepared to shoot anything from sports to business features.
